Another beautiful spot near Cairns, Australia

After spending a bunch of time in Cairns and drinking a lot we decided that we needed a little bit of relaxing downtime. So we made a trip to Bingil Bay and stayed in an amazing hostel that used to be a resort, and was on top of a mountain and overlooked the ocean. It was so nice to stay here and we went for hikes and didn’t drink the entire time we stayed there. I think our bodies were happy with us for the break. We also went to Port Douglas, and pretty much relaxed while we were there as well. Then we headed back to Cairns, and found a new apartment and actually got jobs for the first time in months.

Cairns became our new home for about 4 months, we headed up there originally because it was Australia’s winter and Cairns was the hottest place. We ended up staying for so long due to the great people that we met there. Sadly though we were there pre fake beach, so there wasn’t actually a beach for us. We rented an apartment about a 20 minute walk away, so most days consisted of a walk down the esplanade into town with a water bottle filled with booze. That was of course until we found a sweet new ride in a shopping cart and would take turns pushing each other into town.
After our hellish ride back into Malaysia, and far too much time spent at the Malaysian airport, we were very relieved to have arrived in Brisbane and meet up with my cousin Jenny. After being in Asia for over a month and living in $8 a night bungalows you forget how good a real proper hot shower feels. Not to mention how great it was to see my favourite cousin who I never get to see.

While this was an amazing airport, after about 16 hours there we started to get pretty grumpy and tired….best way to fix that….buy a bottle of wine and get drunk and fall asleep in the kids play area…..we were going to go to the prayer room as there were mats in there….but that felt a bit too wrong.

I just wanted to mention Burger King. Cami is the only one who will ever truly know what that means!
I put this picture in to represent the best and funnest drunken night I have ever had. As a celebration of the Thai New Years, the villages and cities have HUGE water fights that break out everywhere. We were in Chaweng for our first water fight experience, and there were about 200 people all with buckets, water guns, or any other device used for drenching people, running everywhere. It was so ridiculously fun, and what made it even better were all the cute little Thai kids joining in.

Chaweng beach holds some of the best memories for me. We had a nice relaxing day in Lamai and then headed over to Chaweng beach. Cami and I filled up some water bottles with booze and headed to our perfect spot on the beach. We sat there drinking and talking for hours and hours And I remember that being the first time the we really realized and appreciated where we were and how amazing it was. And it only got better.

Getting to Koh Samui didn’t go as smoothly as we would have hoped. We overslept our alarm and awoke to the bus driver knocking on our door telling us to get up….we quickly woke and threw our stuff together and ran down the street chasing after our bus. The bus had left but luckily the guards at the gate flagged the bus driver and we got on. All worth it once we arrived at Lamai beach.

OMG…..Dang’s was THE BEST THAI FOOD. It is in Phuket on Patong beach. We ate there several times daily and spent the day just waiting to be able to eat again. The food was to this day the best Thai food I have ever had. I love food that is insanely spicy and they made the best spicy chicken curry……*drooling* Phuket was no where near my favourite place in Thailand but I would without a question make a trip back there to go to Dang’s again. Plus it is called Dang!

This brings back memories of the first real adventure that Cami and I went on….Our mission was to find a beach in the city of Penang, so we hopped on a bus and hoped for the best….and ended up at a beach!

These towers were our first lovers. Cami and I took about half a role of film of them. They were so high that it is nearly impossible to get a close shot that has both of the entire structures in it. They were truly amazing though.

I am going to start finding pictures from all of the amazing places I have been. I am using other people’s photos because
a) mainly all of my photos were taken with crappy disposable cameras or just as crappy film cameras (why, did I not buy a new camera for my travels?)
b) There are some amazing photographers on Flickr who capture the beauty of these places far better than I have.
c) I don’t have a scanner.
